Govt relaxes Covid-19 measures
The Government of Zimbabwe has moved to relax a raft of measures that were put in place as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Residents returning are now exempt from quarantine centres and can self-isolate at home, provided they have been tested within forty-eight hours.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said,“We were informed that as of September 4, 2020, all returnees with 48-hours negative Covid-19 certificates are being released at ports of entry for self-quarantine as per Cabinet’s directive.
Residents without certificates are permitted home if they test negative at the quarantine centre.
“Returnees without certificates will proceed to a quarantine facility, where they will be tested and either discharged for self-quarantine or isolation, based on their status,” said the Minister.
In light of the imminent reopening for examinations, the government is looking to ensure that learners have adequate and safe transport as well as protective materials.
Furthermore, Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) has been tasked with providing part of its fleet towards ferrying learners and teachers as schools reopen for examinations.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Nick Mangwana posting on twitter said “ZUPCO is working with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to provide exclusive buses that will be used by teachers and pupils when schools open next week.”
