LUPANE- Lupane residents have been encouraged to follow the lockdown regulations announced by His Excellency, President Mnangagwa. The call was made during a two day covid awareness compaign conducted by Lupane East MP, Mbongeni Dube in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Child Care, the District Development Coordinator and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).

The campaigns were designed to inform residents on the dangers of Covid 19 and to enlighten them on the lockdown regulations  in a concerted bid to curtail the rapid increase of Covid 19 cases in Lupane.

The awareness campaigns were held in several areas including St Pauls, Gomoza, Lupaka and St Lukes. While addressing the residents Honourable Dube revealed the agenda of the awareness compaigns.

“The rapid increase of  Covid 19 cases in Matabeleland worry us especially when people are ignorant in a way that they do not follow Covid-19 regulations. I  have joined hands with the Ministry of Health and Child Care, the District Development Coordinator as well as the Zimbabwe Republic Police  to collectively warn our community and share information on the covid-19 pandemic.”he said

Hon. Dube bemoaned the lackadaisical approach exhibited by the Lupane community in terms of adherence to Covid-19 regulations announced by the President before making an impassioned clarion call on the constituents  to cooperate by putting level four lockdown regulations into action.

“Most people  seem relaxed and they are not following the lockdown regulations. l witnessed this sad trajectory as l was moving around Lupane. Some peope are still hosting football tournaments and engagement parties during this lockdown.

These activities and gatherings are super spreaders of the virus and this behaviour is increasing Covid 19 cases in Lupane and Matabeleland as a whole. I urge you to do away with these gatherings and adhere to all the regulations announced by President Mnangagwa,” said Dube.

Marvelous Moyo, a  business person who took part in the awareness  campaigns hailed the MP for providing the much needed information on covid-19.

“Most people did not take this lockdown seriously up until the covid awareness compaigns took place. We have been warned about the pandemic and informed on the  opening and closing hours for businesses, curfew hours and measures to be taken in fighting against spread of Covid-19. We appreciate our MP’s concern and the information shared, ” he said.

The participants   expressed gratitude for the timely awareness campaigns which they said will enable them to remain on the right side of the law and most crucially, save lives.

Recently, Cabinet tasked legislators with creating Covid 19 awareness in their areas and MP Dube has hit the ground running in his constituency.
