Youths cry foul over recalls

Bulawayo youths have members of parliament  and  local authority councillors recalls are unjust and an exposé on the reluctance of the old guard to allow  young people to lead.

One youth from Pumula South,  Debra Ndlovu said the recalls confirm that inclusive  governance  remains a pipe dream in Zimbabwe. 

“CCC is a largely youthful political party and having  their  successful  candidates being recalled unjustly  is proof of a generational fight for dominance where the old generation believes that the new generation should not be allowed to lead. They are intimidated by a huge number of youths in parliament. Having  one generation  in parliament  will negatively  effect  the country  as far  as diversity of views in concerned. There should be political will to accept young people  in parliament so that generational diversity  is achieved.”

Another  youth, Mbonisi Mlauzi of New Magwegwe also bemoaned  the recalls citing their detrimental  effects in championing issues effecting  young  people  in Zimbabwe.

“Challenges affecting young people  in Zimbabwe are bound to persist because of the sabotage against youths in parliament through  recalls. It takes a youth to understand  challenges that affect youths. The old generation dominance  in leadership takes away possible  change. As youths we were  elated by the success  of other  youths  because  it gave us hope that they will  open  more channels to empower young people   but their removal is a bitter pill to swallow.”

Meanwhile, self imposed CCC interim  Secretary  General Sengezo Tshabangu, who is responsible  for the recalls  is on record  saying  that he will be  in charge of  the selection process of  candidates who  are set to run for elections  December 9 has been ear-marked for the by-election to fill the vacant seats.
