Chamisa snubs by-election
Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) president Nelson Chamisa has announced that his party will not take part in “criminal” by-elections slated for December 9 to fill vacant Parliamentary and local authority seats caused by Sengezo Tshabangu’s recalls.
In an interview with Sources Media, Chamisa said the recalls and declaration of by-elections are an attempt to deflect from the fact that President Mnangagwa and Zanu PF lost the August 23 elections.
“We’re not interested in side shows, the main show is the issue of having a proper government, a proper election, a legitimate government in Zimbabwe. All these things are side shows.
“As you look at us, do we look like characters that would participate in a Muppet Show?
“We should not waste time on unconstitutional acts, on criminal acts. We don’t participate in crime. It would be a different ball game had this position been created by a proper case of law. But you can’t criminally produce an imposter, a fraudster, a bogus recall which is not from CCC,” he said.
Chamisa argued that Zanu PF is the power behind Tshabangu as he accused the ruling party of “creating” the “impostor” Tshabangu and acting on his recalls when they know that he is not a member of CCC and does not have the authority to recall.
“Everyone knows who CCC is but they choose to be dishonest, mendacious and malicious,” he said.
Th recalled MPs and councillors are challenging the legality of the recalls at the High Court which will hear the matter on the 2nd of November.
