Byo MP proposes underground water treatment to tackle water crisis

Emakhandeni-Luveve Member of Parliament Discent Bajila has suggested treating underground water and distributing it to residents through taps as a means of alleviating the ongoing water crisis in Bulawayo.
This proposal comes as some parts of the city have gone for days or even months without access to clean water, raising concerns about the spread of waterborne diseases such as cholera.
The water crisis in Bulawayo has been exacerbated by decreasing dam levels due to the El Niño drought affecting the country.
In response, Bajila has expressed his intention to present motions in Parliament related to water resources management, devolution of power, and human dignity. Bajila emphasized the need for municipalities in Matabeleland to explore the use of the railway system to transport bulk water from the Zambezi River to treatment plants as a short- to medium-term solution.
He also stressed the importance of promoting sports and arts in the community, recognizing the potential of the youth in these areas as he plans to organize platforms for showcasing local talent and taking it to a wider audience. Bajila believes that the abundance of sports and recreation facilities in his constituency, including a swimming pool, football stadium, cricket stadium, and facilities for volleyball, netball, and tennis, will be an advantage in achieving this goal.
Bajila’s proposal to treat and distribute underground water offers a potential solution to the water crisis in Bulawayo and aligns with efforts to address the challenges posed by the ongoing drought.
