Byo mayor hits the ground running

Bulawayo Mayor, Sen. Councillor David Coltart has stressed the necessary duty of infrastructure growth in supporting business-related growth and bettering the lives of the public in Bulawayo and across the country.
Speaking at the recently held Ministry of Industry and Commerce Interface meeting, the Mayor reiterated that in order for the city to progress, there is need to advance infrastructural development which will lead to modern development.
He further stressed the need to insistently facilitate the rehabilitation of roads as a foundation that will build trust “while captivating overseas investments adding that there is need to redirect focus and channel resources towards finding sustainable solutions challenges as investing in infrastructure development will not only address the immediate concerns of our citizens but also lay the foundation for long-term economic growth.”
Coltart spoke extensively on the importance of engaging public and private sector stakeholders in collaborative efforts to expedite progress recognizing the crucial role of these factors in driving economic growth.
In his mayoral acceptance speech, Coltart spoke about creating a corruption hotline for whistle-blowers says there is need to deal with corruption locally and regionally in a bid to create sustainability and the growth of the business environment.
“Corruption has long been a thorn in the side of economic development, hindering the growth of local and regional industries and perpetrators must be dealt with through enacting stiffer penalties,” he said.
He further called upon all stakeholders to uphold transparency and accountability mechanisms, strengthening anti-corruption institutions while promoting ethical business practices, and encouraging citizen participation in the fight against corruption.
