Binga MPs sensitize community about upcoming national budget consultation meeting

Binga North Constituency MP, Honourable Chineka Muchimba and Binga South Constituency MP, Honourable Fanuel Cuumanzala held a national budget sensitization meeting in Binga today, 16 September 2024. They informed the Binga community about the 2025 public budget consultation meeting scheduled for 30 September 2024 at Tinde Reformed Church of Zimbabwe, Binga South.
Hon. Muchimba stressed that attending the event is a crucial opportunity for the public to share their insights, expectations, and key focus areas that they believe should be prioritized in national financial planning. It was highlighted that the inputs gathered will be consolidated into a National Voice, which Parliament will share with the executive.
“I urge you all to attend the meeting so that you can make contributions during the public hearing,” Muchimba said.
Hon. Cuumanzala noted that community contributions could include suggestions on structuring the tax system, such as taxation of the informal sector, mining sector, corporates, and individuals. He also mentioned that the community should also consider how the tax system can respond to issues affecting women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
Furthermore, Hon. Cuumanzala highlighted that inputs might also cover the structuring of fees and charges for government services such as passport fees, VID testing fees, birth registration fees, land rental fees, licensing fees, company registration fees, and vehicle licensing and registration fees, among others. This also includes fines and penalties charged for various infractions.
“The primary objective of this initiative is to ensure that the national budget reflects the needs and aspirations of citizens. We want to create a budget that not only addresses current challenges but also lays the groundwork for sustainable growth and development. Your input will help us align our financial resources with the priorities of our communities,” Cuumanzala emphasized.
The national budget consultations will be conducted in ten provinces of Zimbabwe from 30 September to 4 October 2024. Those unable to attend due to transport issues have been advised to tune into their local community radio stations to contribute to the conversation.
The national budget sensitization meeting in Binga serves as an essential platform for community engagement and participation in shaping the future of the country’s financial planning. By actively contributing to the budget consultation process, citizens can ensure that their voices are heard, and their needs are addressed in the formulation of policies that impact their lives.
