Ambitious new inspector unveils plans for education complex in Hwange

Hwange District is set for a major transformation in its education system, thanks to the vision of a determined new District Schools Inspector. Dr Hastings Lawrence Matshazi has unveiled a plan to construct a million-dollar education complex, complete with a conference center, to improve facilities and generate income for the district.
The ambitious project, met with unanimous approval by school heads at a recent meeting, will see the construction of a state-of-the-art Better Schools Programme Zimbabwe (BSPZ) complex. This marks a historic first, according to Dr. Matshazi: “This is the first time a local authority has provided land for education purposes since independence,” he said, highlighting the contribution of Hwange Rural District Council for allocating the land at 5 Miles, an area on the outskirts of Hwange town.
But the complex is just the first step. Construction is slated to begin on June 1, 2024 and be completed by November 29, 2024. Beyond providing much-needed office space, the complex will offer a conference center for rent, generating revenue and allowing the district to become self-sufficient in terms of office accommodation. School heads welcomed the proposal to borrow funds for the complex, viewing it as a significant step towards owning a permanent Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education facility.
Dr. Matshazi’s vision extends far beyond the complex itself. He also aims to procure a bus for the district education department and establish education offices at three centers. “The HRDC allocated us three stands,” he explained, outlining the long-term plan. “The first one will be built this year, and the other two will be developed in the future.” And his ambition doesn’t stop there: “My dream is for every school in the district to own a bus, and we can achieve this by working together,” he declared.
Hwange District is poised for an exciting new chapter in education, with Dr. Matshazi’s leadership promising a brighter future for students and educators alike.
