Acclaimed poet encourages artists to soldier on

Lupane born and Victoria Falls based award-winning poet Obert Dube, whose stork continues to rise, has told upcoming artists not to throw in the the towel in times of hardships.
Speaking to Community Podium, Dube noted that the journey to stardom for people from Matabeleland is fraught with challenges due to marginalisation which warrants a great deal of resilience and
patience.
“Upcoming artists need to understand that the journey is not a smooth ride and can be harsh but they should stay the course to see their dreams come to fruition,” he said.
Dube added that upcoming artists must do everything in their power to avoid the comfort zone and instead, work their socks off to realise their dreams.
“Kabasebenze nzima ngoba ekugcineni uzabuya umvuzo labantu bazayinanzelela imisebenzi yomuntu osebenza ngokuzikhandla kulokuthi umuntu afune zinto ezibuya lula zizaphinda zitshabalale. There is pride in believing in your dreams and working hard towards achieving those dreams,” Dube said.
Dube won the Best Poet Award
on saturday at the National Arts Merits Awards (NAMA) which is his 10th award since the genesis of his career.
Passionate Dube has his sights on becoming the best poet in Africa.
He overcame the odds Best Pan African Award in Cameroon for the second time in a row in 2021. He also won the Amaqhawentaba Radio Award in South Africa and has performed in several countries across the globe.
