Lupane Business Expo highlights importance of MSMEs

The Zimbabwe Education Fund Trust and the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development held a successful Business Expo at the Lupane Bus Terminus on June 14-15, 2024. The two-day event was officiated by the Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Honorable Monica Mutsvangwa, who delivered the keynote address.

In her remarks, Minister Mutsvangwa emphasized the crucial role that micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) play in Zimbabwe’s economic development. “MSMEs are the backbone of our economy, providing employment, innovation and opportunities for entrepreneurship,” she said. “It is absolutely vital that we continue to strengthen and support this dynamic sector.”

The minister encouraged participants to take full advantage of the various government programs and initiatives aimed at supporting MSME growth, such as improved access to finance, skills training, and market linkages. “The future prosperity of our nation lies in the hands of our enterprising business owners and innovators. By empowering MSMEs, we empower Zimbabwe,” Mutsvangwa added.

Exhibitors at the Lupane Bus Terminus expo expressed optimism about the growth prospects for their businesses. “This expo has given us a invaluable platform to showcase our products and services to a wide audience,” said Thembinkosi Ndlovu, owner of a local manufacturing company. “The support and guidance we’ve received from the ministry has been instrumental in helping us navigate the challenges facing small businesses.”

Another exhibitor, Caroline Nkomo, who runs a thriving agribusiness, stated: “Events like this demonstrate the government’s steadfast commitment to nurturing entrepreneurship. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to network, learn from each other, and explore new market opportunities.”

Gogo MaMoyo, who sells beautifully crafted batik and other artisanal products, said she was “overjoyed to be exhibiting at this showcase. This is a wonderful chance for us to reach new customers and grow our businesses.”

Tanyaradzwa Chipanga, who runs a promising tech startup, added: “Being part of this expo has been transformative for us. We’ve made valuable connections and gained crucial insights that will help us take our business to the next level.”

The two-day Business Expo at the Lupane Bus Terminus featured a diverse array of exhibitors, ranging from food processors and artisanal craftsmen to tech startups and service providers. Attendees had the chance to engage directly with the exhibitors, attend training sessions on topics like digital marketing and financial management, and explore potential business partnerships.

The successful hosting of the Lupane Business Expo underscores the Zimbabwean government’s steadfast dedication to empowering MSMEs and fostering a conducive environment for their growth. As the nation continues its economic recovery, the development of this critical sector will be crucial in creating jobs, driving innovation, and building a more prosperous future for all Zimbabweans.
