Matobo councillors urged to prioritise unity and development

Newly elected councillors have been urged to give precedence to unity and development in their communities, a Matobo district official has said.
Matobo District Development Coordinator, Obey Chaputsira in his congratulatory speech during a special full council meeting held at Matobo Rural District Council Boardroom. The meeting was meant to select a new council Chairman and Committees.
“We should now unite and treat each other as children from the same mother, it is time for development in Matobo,” the DDC emphasized.
He pledged that the Government is committed to assist the council if and when there is need.
“The government is here to support you all the way. It’s unfortunate that we have revenue collection challenges in Matabeleland and I hope there will be a way out,” said Chaputsira.
The meeting that was guided by section 45, 46 and 56 of the MRDC constitution saw Alderman Councillor Tobias Sibanda (Ward 22) elected as the new Chairman. He will be deputized by Councillor Joseph Sibanda (Ward 23).
Alderman Councillor Tobias Sibanda garnered 18 votes against Mxolisi Ncube who had 15 votes while Councillor Joseph Sibanda won with 17 votes against Councillor Sinikiwe Moyo (Ward 14) who had 16 votes.
Alderman Councillor Tobias Sibanda who assumed his position as Chairperson during the meeting said he felt honored at being elected.
“I give thanks to those who voted for me because it was God’s will and they did it from their hearts. Let us work together and build Matobo. The fact that I’m in front of you does not mean that I know best, but the knowledge rests in you, so bring that knowledge to develop our district,” said the new council Chairperson.
In committees, the Finance committees will be chaired by Councillor Paul Ncube (Ward 24) while the Road Works Committee will be chaired by Councillor Vincent Ndlovu (Ward 13) who will be deputised by Councillor Alexander Phiri (Ward 10).
Councillor Sithembiso Ndlovu (Ward 17) chairs the Environmental Committee and her deputy is Councillor Otto Dube (Ward 9). The Social Services Committee will be chaired by Councillor Thiwe Ndlovu (Ward 18) and deputized by Councillor Sinikiwe Moyo (Ward 14).
Councillor Fortunate Ndebele (Ward 25) chairs the Audit committee and his deputy is Councillor Sehlule Sibanda.
Councillor Nkosiyazi Fuyane was selected to Chair the Human Resources Committee while Councillor Sindiso Ngwenya is his Vice Chairperson. In the Gender Committee, Councillor Kwanele Ndlovu is the Chairperson and her deputy is Councillor Selina Ncube.
Maphisa Area Committee guided by section 56 of the RDC Act will be made up of Councillors from ward 19, 20 and 22.
