Mzilikazi takes an early lead
Bulawayo Province Division 2 outfit, Mzilikazi Football Club has had a flying start to the new season.The club, a brain child of former Highlanders FC midfielder, Richard ‘Dabuka’ Choruma, is on a five-game winning streak that has propelled them to the summit of the table, two points clear of second placed How Mine.
Mzilikazi has capitalised on a slip by early pacesetters, How Mine who lost to Crusaders 0-1, to cede the top position to Mzilikazi who beat Lobengula by the same scoreline.
However, Mayfield Daka, the Administrator played down the club’s ambitions for the title while maintaining that the players are keeping their heads down and focused on improving.
“We are still developing and building players who will hopefully represent the country and play anywhere in the world…It is too early to talk about winning the championship. We are keeping the momentum high like any other club that finds itself having a good run and all I can say is aluta continua. We extend our gratitude as a team to our community for the support as we thank our coaches and players for the marvelous work they are doing,” he said.
Mzilikazi lead the pack with 15 points, followed by How Mine at 13 points. The race is currently a two-horse race and it remains to be seen what will become of it as more twists and turns are expected.
