We will negotiate from home-Teachers
The militant Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) says the best kind of negotiation is for teachers to stay in their homes until government restores the purchasing power parity of teachers’ salaries.
In a statement, Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe President, Dr Takavafira Zhou said there are no negotiations going on currently.
Zhou took a swipe at the Apex Council which he accuses of selling out to the government.
“Apex Council’s mandate to negotiate has long expired and the recent transformation of Apex Council into a Confederation and self appointment into confederation leadership is not only illegal but illogical as there are no federations to form such a confederation.”
“The best negotiation is for teachers to stay in their homes until government restores the purchasing power parity of teachers’ salaries. The reason why PTUZ has walked away from Apex Council is because of Apex’s flirtation and romance with government. Those outside Apex must be the real deal” contended Dr Zhou.
A defiant Zhou went on declare Monday as the “D-day.””No defeat no surrender until victory always Aluta continua”, he concluded.
Meanwhile, the Public Service Commission Permanent Secretary Ambassador J. Wutawunashe issued a statement announcing that the government will pay government employees a cost of living adjustment week ending 2 October 2020.
“The Public Service Commission wishes to announce that , in the spirit of an understanding between Government and its employees, Government will proceed to pay, in addition to regular emoluments paid out earlier this week, what is avaialble, while negotiations in the National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) continue” said Amb Wutawunashe.
“The government reiterates its commitment to pay a living wage to its employees, who will start accessing the top up within the week ending 2 October 2020” read the statement.
Pupils sitting for their final year examinations for grade 7, Ordinary and Advanced level are expected to commence lessons on September 28.
