Covid19 survivor lifts lid on harrowing experience

A covid19 survivor, Kuda Musasiwa shared his horrific journey while battling with the virus at a local health facility in Harare.

Kuda Musasiwa (Also known as Begotten Sun) is a Zimbabwean entrepreneur, musician, and music producer. He is also known for founding tech-based businesses Fresh In A Box and Lytee.

Posting on a microblogging platform Twitter, Musasiwa expressed gratitude to the public for donating towards his treatment.

“For 2 weeks I was unconscious in Intensive Care unit and another two weeks in CCU ventilator. I was not on medical aid and my bill was north of $15000 USD.Ongoing care like CT scans for clots etc would have  financially ruined my family had it not been for the public donations,” he tweeted.

Musasiwa proceeded to bare his soul and gave a blow by blow account of his painful ordeal.

“When you come off the ventilator after a near death experience with Covid19 some serious issues then arise:
1) Chunks of memories are temporarily lost. (Kids names. Experiences. Where you live)
2) Your muscles wasted away. I was under for 2 weeks. I left hospital unable to walk
3) The indignity of being unable to use the toilet or cleaning oneself.
4) Your brain is totally disconnected from your body. For example I often feel like I can lift my baby daughter but I can barely lift 5 kilogrammes. She is 25kilogrammes.
5) I came out on over 20 tablets and now have diabetes. (The diabetes brought on because of an anti auto immune steroid called Dexthamethazone that basically stops your body immune system from turning on your lungs.)
6) My throat has not recovered from the ventilator. I can barely talk and when I do it’s painful beyond measure.
7) Your brain can make up entire narratives that didn’t happen when you were under but you feel they are really real.
8) I’m grateful to be alive. Many didn’t make it. It’s a very slow process of getting better. Daily physiotherapy, working through memories. Pain.”

Musasiwa concluded by thanking the twitter family and further warned compatriots to avoid getting the virus.

“Thank you for all your prayers, thoughts and kind words here on Twitter. I’ll be absolutely back. Not sure how long. But I know it won’t be quick or easy…He further admonished people not to get Covid19. Mask up, 2 meters apart. Sanitize. Don’t get it. Trust me! It’s BAD!!!”
