Treasury Delays Leave BEAM Claims at 14 Bulawayo Schools Unpaid

BULAWAYO — Government has acknowledged that BEAM claims submitted by 14 Bulawayo schools remain unpaid because Treasury has not yet released funds, Parliament heard on August 19.

The Basic Education Assistance Module, commonly known as BEAM, supports school fees for pupils from vulnerable households.

Hon. Bajila asked the government about the outstanding claims at schools in Bulawayo Province.

In response, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Hon. T. Moyo said the schools had completed the required claims process but were awaiting funding.

“The 14 schools you highlighted have all submitted their BEAM claim forms,” Hon. Moyo said.

“However, due to delayed disbursement of funds by the Treasury, these claim forms have yet to be processed.”

The minister said the outstanding arrears would be settled once Treasury releases the money.

The delay is likely to be closely watched by Bulawayo parents and schools that rely on BEAM payments to support learners from low-income families.
