Covid 19 infections, deaths fall amid fewer tests on Sunday

Covid-19 infections dropped to 617 on Sunday from 1 591 of the previous day. However, 5 000 fewer tests were done. There were 44 fatalities down from 89. The seven day rationing average for new cases dropped to 2039 from 2094.
Covid 19 claimed 14 lives in the Matabeleland Provinces. Bulawayo registered 9 deaths ,Matabeleland North, 2 deaths while Matebeleland South recorded 3 deaths.
Bulawayo recorded a total number of 59 new cases, showing a substantial decline from 138 cases recorded a day earlier. The sum total of new cases in Matebeleland North and Matebeleland South was 98, another significant drop from 152 recorded on Saturday.
However, the fall in both new cases and deaths is in keeping with the fewer tests carried out across the country.
In Bulawayo a total number of 112 people recovered from Covid 19. Matabeleland South had 30 recoveries and the largest number of recoveries in the region was 64 recoveries registered in Matabeleland North.
The fewer recoveries recorded can also be attributed to the less testing conducted on the day.
Matabeleland South recorded the lowest number of new cases (20) while Harare recorded the highest number amounting to 156 new active cases.
As of 25 July 2021, Zimbabwe had a total number of 97 894 active cases with a record of 65 913 recoveries and a record of 3094 deaths.
National recovery rate stands at 67 percent while active cases went down to 28 887.
A total number of 18 452 received the first dose bringing the cumulative to 1447 342 while 2286 received their second dose bringing the cumulative for the second dose to 680 060.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr John Mangwiro has said children aged between 3 and 17 years will soon be undergoing inoculation against Covid 19 in preparation for the reopening of schools. He added that studies are being undertaken and if satisfactory the vaccination of school children can start.
