Lockdown extended by another 2 weeks

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has extended the level 4 lockdown for another 2 weeks.

The president noted that there has been a marked decrease in the number of infections since the beginning of this current lockdown. However, the President hopes to further reduce these cases by an extension which will be reviewed in a fortnight.

“I therefore extend the National Lockdown by a further 2 weeks,” he announced.

Under level 4, the president said “schools remain closed, public gatherings remain banned” for the duration of this lockdown extension. Business hours have been increased and now stretch from 8am to 17:00hrs.Curfew now starts 8pm.

In a brief address to the nation the president expressed profuse gratitude to the People’s Republic of China for partnering Zimbabwe in the fight against Covid19. Earlier in the day, a consignment of the vaccine donated by China was received by the Vice President Constantino Chiwenga at the Robert Mugabe International Airport. He added that more vaccine donations will be made by several countries.

“Vaccine donations from Russia, India and the UK are also on the way,” he said

Only those willing will receive the jab.

As of 14 February, Zimbabwe has recorded 35 172 cases, 30 601 recoveries and 1400 deaths
