Ruthless Hwange put Rovers to the sword

Hwange Football Club beat visiting Mosi Rovers FC at the Colliery Stadium yesterday to maintain pole position on the Southern Region Division One league table.
Chipangano took the lead 4 minutes into the game from the spot after Shepherd Gadzika was hacked down in the box. Kelly Shiyandindi stepped up to coolly convert the penalty.
Hwange were not yet done as they ran riot in the first half with Gadzikwa, Shiyandindi and Wonder Sibanda tormenting the visitors’ defence. In the 20th minute, the hardrunning Gadzikwa received a perfect cross from the impressive Sibanda and reacted swiftly to rifle the ball into the back of the nets, sending the Chipangano drum beating fans into a frenzy.
Rovers were cautious in their approach to the game particularly in the first half allowing the sleeky Gadzikwa to threaten defenders at will.Had their strikers been more prolific, Hwange could have won the match with half a dozen goals.
In the 37th minute Gadzikwa won the ball near the middle of the park and made a solo run before laying on an inviting pass to an alert Loyd Mutoma who responded with a powerful shot into the nets giving the coal miners a three nil lead in the first half.
The visitors came back from the break a changed side as they matched their more illustrious opponents man to man . The half time pep talk by coach Mehluli Sibanda did the trick as Rovers prevented the hosts from adding more goals. They also tried to find an opening but found the experienced Chipangano defence unyielding.
Under the tutelage of Bongani Mafu, table topping Chipangano are now 20 points clear of their nearest rivals and are on course to make a quick return to the coveted Premier League next season.
