Hwange stretches lead

HWANGE- Southern Region Division One leaders, Hwange FC , edged second placed Arenel Movers 1-0 in a tightly contested league match at the Colliery Stadium yesterday.
Chipangano could have taken the lead in the 10th minute but roving striker Ernest Gwitima’s effort was parried out for a corner by the impressive Arenel goalkeeper. Hwange piled on pressure but found the biscuit makers’ rear guard uncompromising.
The all-important goal came in the 42nd minute through tireless workhorse Kelly Shiyandindi who coolly converted a hotly protested penalty.
Attacking midfielder Cannan Nkomo was hacked down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot after consulting his assistant prompting protests from the visitors. Up stepped Shiyandindi to rifle the ball into the roof of the nets sending the capacity home crowd into wild celebrations. Arenel restricted the visitors from further scoring as they matched them man to man.
Hwange are now 6 points clear of Arenel and have played a game less.
In the other match across town, ZPC Hwange clobbered Mainline 3-0 at Ingagula stadium.
” We played quite well. To be honest, Arenel played better than us.We are certainly headed for a quick return to the Premier Soccer League but we need to up our game,” said Chipangano’s Supporters Association Victoria Falls chapter Chairperson, Stanley Shoko.
