By Thembelihle Mhlanga

Lupane West, Zimbabwe –Jabatshaba Primary School, a local school in Lupane West, recently received essential support from Member of Parliament Hon. Mxolisi Charles Sibanda, who donated several rice bags to help alleviate food insecurity among students.

This generous gesture addresses the pressing reality that many children attend school without adequate meals. Hon. Sibanda, understanding the difficulties faced by families in his community, made the donation to ensure students can access at least one nutritious meal during the school day.

“It is heartbreaking to see children going to school hungry,” he remarked during the donation ceremony. “This rice will go a long way in helping them focus on their education rather than their empty stomachs.”

The donation was warmly received by members of the School Development Committee, who expressed their gratitude for the support. Mr Mandlenkosi Moyo, a committee member at Jabatshaba Primary School, echoed Sibanda’s sentiments.

“We are incredibly grateful for this donation. Many kids come to school hungry, and this rice will make a significant difference in their lives,” Moyo stated.

He emphasized that the rice would not only provide immediate relief but also contribute to the overall well-being of the students. Another local school head, who requested anonymity for professional reasons, also expressed appreciation for Hon. Sibanda’s initiative.

“This gesture is a beacon of hope for our children. Knowing they can have at least one proper meal during the day is a tremendous relief,” the head said.

This sentiment highlights the urgent need for support in addressing food insecurity in the region. Hunger among school children is a significant barrier to education, and studies have shown that well-nourished students perform better academically. In Lupane West, where many families face economic hardships, the need for such initiatives is critical.

Hon. Sibanda’s donation is part of a broader commitment to improving educational outcomes in the area as he has donated to 14 schools so far. “This is just the beginning,” he assured attendees. “We will continue to work together to ensure that our children are provided for, both in and out of the classroom.”

As schools in Lupane West receive this vital support, there is renewed hope for a brighter future for the community’s children. The donation not only addresses immediate needs but also underscores the importance of community involvement in the pursuit of education and well-being.
