Binga youths receive skills capacitation training

A total of 207 youths from Binga successfully completed a 10-day skills training program, which provided them with expertise in various fields such as cosmetology, building, plumbing, motor mechanics, solar technology, welding, dressmaking, and carpentry.
The training, held from September 16 to 27, 2024, in Sianzyundu Ward 9, was organized by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development, and Vocational Training in collaboration with the UNDP. The initiative aimed to empower youths in Binga by promoting self-employment and reducing issues related to drug and substance abuse.
In an interview with cluster coordinator Cryton Mudimba, he expressed his appreciation for the program, stating, “This initiative will benefit youths in various fields. It will also help them address unemployment by enabling them to become employers themselves.”
He emphasized that the program is not limited to youths in Sianzyundu Ward but covers the entire district. Participants were drawn from youths from Lunga Ward, Manjolo Ward, and Saba Ward, although the largest number was from Sianzyundu and Mupambe Wards due to the proximity of the training venue.
Dumisani Mungombe from mangani village, a plumbing student in the program, remarked, “This training will equip us with skills that we can apply in our future work. It will also help youths reduce engagement in risky behaviors such as drug and substance abuse and crime.”
Ruth Muchimba, who was studying dressmaking, also shared her enthusiasm.
“After this training, I anticipate making a significant change in my life by providing uniforms to local schools in my area. This program will empower young women to be independent, allowing us to work from the comfort of our homes without relying on external assistance.”
The skills capacitation training in Binga represents a vital step towards youth empowerment and community development. By equipping young people with practical skills, this program not only fosters self-employment but also contributes to the overall socio-economic growth of the region.
As these youths gain skills and confidence, they can become positive role models within their communities, inspiring others to pursue similar paths.
The participants emphasized that continued support and expansion of such initiatives are crucial in addressing the challenges of unemployment and social issues, paving the way for a brighter future for the youth of Binga.
