Voter registration an on-going exercise

BULAWAYO-Zimbabwe’s electoral body, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has reminded citizens that  voter registration is an on-going exercise in the electoral cycle.

The reminder comes on the back of two registration blitzes, the latest having been completed on the 30th of April.

“Voter registration has not stopped. The voters roll was closed for delimitation on the 30th of May. However, for the purposes of elections in 2023 and any by-elections that might come up, registration continues at all our 63 districts and 10 provincial offices,” said Bulawayo District Elections Officer, Sithembiso Khuphe.

 Contrary to an earlier report by this publication stating that the elections body had stopped voter registration to accommodate delimitation, Khuphe clarified that delimitation has not stopped voter registration. She said December the 31st will mark the end of delimitation.

The month of July will see ZEC rolling out voter inspection and voter education. As at 30 April, ZEC through its voter registration blitzes  registered 109 405 people. Of these, 49 501 are females and 59 904 are males.
