Local NGO donates towards the fight against Covid 19

VICTORIA FALLS – Umhambi Children of Hope has once again come through for the Victoria Falls community by donating much needed medical consumables. In addition to taking care of orphans and paying fees for them, Umhambi’s philanthropy extends to providing for the elderly.
The organization donated an assortment of medical consumables valued at $250000 at a ceremony held at the city’s isolation centre. The long list of consumables includes, syringes, masks, catheters, gynecology sets, surgical gowns, urine bags, fluid connectors, latex gloves among many others.
Speaking on behalf of the recipient community at the occasion, Fungai Sithole hailed the organisation for the job well done. She thanked the non-governmental organization for the exemplary gesture as she asserted that the government is overwhelmed and that its efforts must be complemented by NGOs who have the wherewithal and capacity to intervene in the fight against Covid-19. She implored other organizations to follow suit and render such help to communities.
“l would like to thank Umhambi Children of Hope for showing so much love and concern and for empathising with us. This kind and timely gesture means a lot to us as a community. We have been affected by the effects of Covid 19 and lost our sources of income in the process. The government has also been stretched in its response to the pandemic and this is where the private sector must chip in with assistance.Therefore, l would like to say to Umhambi Children of Hope, please don’t tire. This will also be an example to other organizations and they should follow suit,” said a bubbly Sithole.
The District Medical Officer for Hwange, Dr Fungai Musiname nee Mvura gave an impassioned vote of thanks which underscored the significance of the donation in the fight against the pandemic.
“l want to thank you for the donation that will go a long way in fighting the pandemic. The gesture demonstrates the prevailing unity and involvement of our community in health issues.
In our Hwange District, Covid 19 has posed the greatest threat to lives and livelihoods. We continue in the fight as we trust and hope that we will emerge victorious from the pandemic. Our gratitude is to all the people in the country and abroad who have put efforts to source this consignment for us. We hope that you continue to prosper in everything you do,” she said.
Mr Tonderai Mutasa, a National Executive member of the Affirmative Action Group, revealed that Umhambi has also been working with the community in the educational sector.
” l want to thank the Umhambi group for what they have just done. This is a very good gesture and I believe many other organizations will pluck a leaf or two from Umhambi’s philanthropic book.
As an advocacy group, we are encouraging individuals and organisations to assist the Ministry of Health and Child Care during this difficult time and make sure we are out of the woods by the provision of such medical consumables.
UMhambi have also done so much in the educational sector,so l want to say thank you very much. May the Almighty bless you,” said Mutasa.
The director of Umhambi, Mr Misheck Ngulube took joy in dispensing the medical consumables. He said he hopes the donation can help alleviate the health crisis caused by Covid 19.
“It is our pleasure to contribute towards the fight against the pandemic that has caused havoc in the district. We hope our contribution can make a difference towards the fight,” he said.
