Unvaccinated people constitute nearly 90% of Covid 19 deaths

Zimbabwe National Task force Chief Coordinator, Agnes Mahomva has released an update on admissions and community deaths by vaccination status. Following, the update, the case for vaccination has been augmented as unvaccinated people constitute nearly 90% of Covid 19 related deaths.

 The update shows that unvaccinated people constitute a staggering 88.9% of deaths, while those who received the first dose vaccine account for 3.4% of deaths. 4.8% among the dead had received two doses of the vaccine. The vaccination status of 2.9% of the deceased is not known. 

According to the data collected by Professor Rudo Makunike-Mutasa from the Department of Histopathology, the Covid 19 third wave is claiming more lives than the first and second waves. The stats also show that more children are contracting the virus compared to the previous waves.

The country continues to see a surge in COVID 19 cases and fatalities as a91 deaths were recorded by the Ministry of Health and Child care in the past 24 hours. 

There was an increase by 30 deaths from yesterday’s fatalities bringing the number of COVID-19 related deaths to 2 961.

The country recorded 2 265 COVID 19 cases  where Harare took a lead with 590 cases followed by Murewa with 82 Chegutu with 75, Bulawayo’s Northern Suburbs recorded 72 cases , Masvingo 67 , Emakhandeni District 59, Nkulumane District 48,  Marondera 44 , Hurungwe 34, Bindura 27 Mazowe 25, Midlands 15 , and Chiredzi 10. 

This brought the total number for recorded cases to 95 686. 

Meanwhile Zimbabwe has a positivity rate of 19.1 percent  having recorded 1 263 new recoveries bringing the number of recoveries to 62 986  while the recovery rate stands at 66 percent. 

Since the start of vaccination , the country has vaccinated 1 400 905 for the first dose whilst  671 155 have received their second dose with 48 391 having received their first dose today, whilst those who received second dose 6 568  today.
